Well-known builders, different ownership briefs. Explore cruising monohulls, long-distance monohulls and sailing catamarans.

Cruising monohulls

Beneteau

Oceanis, Oceanis Yacht; First for a different performance brief

Investigate Oceanis for a production cruising shortlist, then distinguish it from the First and Oceanis Yacht families. A builder’s badge covers different purposes; compare the exact range and model.

Check before ordering: Which sail-handling, electronics, electrical and comfort equipment is standard on this exact specification? Who commissions and supports it in Australia?

Official builder reference ↗

Cruising monohulls

Jeanneau

Sun Odyssey; Jeanneau Yachts

Sun Odyssey is a useful starting point for a cruising-monohull comparison. Keep Jeanneau Yachts and any performance-oriented offering distinct when setting the budget and intended use.

Check before ordering: Who is the authorised dealer for my state and selected range, and what handover, warranty labour and follow-up visits are included?

Official builder reference ↗

Cruising monohulls

Hanse

Hanse sailing-yacht range

Include Hanse when comparing production monohulls and the way a small crew will manage the offered sail-handling arrangement. Verify features on the actual order rather than generalising across models.

Check before ordering: Which handling features are included in the quote, and who is responsible for Australian commissioning and warranty work?

Official builder reference ↗

Cruising monohulls

Bavaria

C-LINE and CRUISER LINE

Consider Bavaria as another production cruising comparison, using the exact series and layout. Do not infer a finished Australian price from an overseas starting figure.

Check before ordering: Can I receive a fully itemised Australian delivery quote with every selected option, local installation and exclusion identified?

Official builder reference ↗

Cruising monohulls

Dufour

Dufour sailing-yacht range

Include Dufour in a cruising-monohull shortlist where the current layouts and sailing arrangement suit your crew. Review the configuration supplied, not only the boat-show display.

Check before ordering: What will differ between the demonstration yacht and the signed order, and can each difference be shown in the specification?

Official builder reference ↗

Long-distance monohulls

Oyster

Oyster new-build sailing-yacht programme; compare a specific monohull model

Investigate Oyster’s monohulls for a substantial long-distance ownership brief with a corresponding build, systems and support plan. Its broader catalogue should not be treated as one uniform product.

Check before ordering: What owner involvement, build inspection, training, delivery support and aftercare are included in my particular order?

Official builder reference ↗

Long-distance monohulls

Hallberg-Rassy

Current Hallberg-Rassy range; aft- and centre-cockpit choices vary by model

Explore the current range for a long-distance cruising brief, selecting the cockpit arrangement and size that suit your crew. The builder’s positioning is a starting point, not proof of readiness for any passage.

Check before ordering: Which configuration suits our regular crew, and who will support the yacht and its installed equipment after Australian delivery?

Official builder reference ↗

Cruising catamarans

Lagoon Catamarans

Lagoon sailing-catamaran range

Investigate Lagoon when accommodation, living spaces and a cruising-catamaran arrangement match the plan. Separate sailing catamarans from power models and compare the actual owner or guest layout.

Check before ordering: What payload information applies to the chosen model and options, and what remains for crew, water, fuel, tender and cruising stores?

Official builder reference ↗

Cruising catamarans

Fountaine Pajot

Fountaine Pajot sailing-catamaran range

Add Fountaine Pajot to a cruising-catamaran comparison using the specific model, helm arrangement and accommodation configuration. Obtain a current equipment list rather than comparing photographs of different versions.

Check before ordering: Who coordinates factory equipment and Australian-fitted equipment, and which party owns warranty issues at their interfaces?

Official builder reference ↗

Cruising catamarans

Leopard Catamarans

Leopard sailing-catamaran range; distinguish it from Powercat

Consider the sailing range alongside Lagoon and Fountaine Pajot. The builder also markets powercats, so confirm propulsion type and exact specification before interpreting an Australian stock advertisement.

Check before ordering: Is this yacht factory-new, demonstrator, stock or previously operated, and what is the documented commissioning and warranty history?

Availability to verify

Hunter / Marlow-Hunter

New-build offer not verified in this research

Included because buyers frequently ask about Hunter. Do not treat an older brochure, familiar brand name or a used listing as evidence that a new yacht can be ordered today.

Check before ordering: Can you provide a current written offer, manufacturer authorisation, build or hull identity, delivery terms and enforceable warranty arrangements?

Useful head-to-head shortlists

  • Beneteau Oceanis vs Jeanneau Sun Odyssey: compare similarly sized, similarly equipped cruising models; inspect crew movement and sail handling.
  • Lagoon vs Fountaine Pajot vs Leopard: match cabin layout, loaded cruising requirements, helm access, berth dimensions and support.
  • Oyster vs Hallberg-Rassy: select suitable monohull models first, then compare crew needs, systems, service and the complete long-distance ownership plan.
  • Hanse vs Bavaria vs Dufour: compare the quoted configurations and demonstration findings, including standard and optional equipment.

These groupings organise investigation. They do not claim equal price, speed, reliability or offshore capability.

6 QUESTIONS FOR THIS TOPIC

Making sense of yacht brands: FAQs

Should I compare every Beneteau with every Jeanneau?

Compare equivalent model families, sizes and equipment first. Oceanis and Sun Odyssey may form one cruising shortlist; a performance-oriented model needs a different comparison. The brand name alone is too broad to establish an equivalent yacht.

Why is Hunter separated from the current-range groups?

This research did not verify a current new-build offer or Australian supply arrangement. Hunter remains included as a requested brand with that limitation clearly stated. Confirm a current written offer and manufacturer support before treating a yacht as an orderable new build.

How should I compare Lagoon with a similar-length Oyster?

First decide whether the different hull types, dimensions and ownership arrangements meet the same brief. Compare actual berthing, crew, equipment and delivered costs. Equal length is not a fair substitute for those checks.

Do these profiles independently verify manufacturer performance claims?

No. Builder sources establish the published ranges and identified sales channels. The profiles supply editorial questions for investigation; they do not certify speed, build quality, reliability or offshore capability.

Is Australian dealer presence enough to guarantee local repairs?

Ask who actually investigates and carries out work where you keep the yacht, including approval, labour, travel and haul-out arrangements. A sales contact is not the complete service agreement.

Can I use the comparison to select a specific new model?

Use it to narrow the type and builders, then obtain model-specific specifications, demonstrations and comparable written offers. The final choice should use the actual configuration and delivery arrangement you would buy.
